Hibbertia cistiflora is a well-known shrub in south-eastern Australia. During the preparation of a research paper on eastern Australian species of Hibbertia (Toelken, in press), it became apparent that the place and date of publication, the type specimen, as well as the authorship of the species name needs clarification. In this Short Communication, the author from the State Herbarium discusses these issues and the history of the name and publication, gives the correct synonymy for the species and designates a lectotype.
