The author describes a rare new species of liverwort, Riccardia plumisecta, which is only found in the cool temperate rainforest at Growling Swallet in Mount Field National Park, Tasmania. The species is compared with morphologically similar taxa from Australia and New Zealand. It is characterised by its large size (up to 8.5 cm) and its regularly and
densely pinnate form.
